It all started with cream teas and a desire for better outdoor tables and seating.
It is not hard to imagine how one might be inspired to be creative in the idyllic setting of Honeybeam on Torridgeside.
Nestling in a green valley, surrounded by woodland, with a gentle stream flowing through the grounds is the stunningly picturesque scenery that provided the backdrop for Danny and Debbie Oke's cream tea business.
As always, with Danny and Debbie, quality of product and first class customer service was highest on the agenda. But whilst the cream teas were delicious, the seating was not ideal.
Carpenter and joiner, Danny Oke's keen eye for design was quick to notice the impracticality of the standard bench table for al fresco entertaining. He was confident that he could create garden furniture which was superior in stability, in sociability and in accessibility.
In keeping with the natural beauty of Honeybeam's surroundings, Danny's small acorn of an idea was being carried along by the stream of his own innovative and creative ability.
The first acorn to grow from the Devon Oke workshop was a four-seater octagonal table with an easy walk-in design. Since then, Danny has developed a range of styles and sizes which can be tailored to suit individual requirements.
The mighty oak is now 'Devon Oke Designs' producing superiuor quality garden furniture to a wide client base throughout the Uk and abroad.
The eight-seater table is readily adapted to allow one or two wheelchair users to sit right at the table with their friends. This is one of the reasons that the table has been so readily adopted as a standard by such institutions as the National Trust throughout the Uk and by the RSPB for their nature reserves.
The innovative designs coupled with good quality treated timber sourced from certificated sustainable sources means low maintenance and durability.
The table and chairs combined is designed to take a high degree of weight that can be supported at any point of the seating area, making the table very stable.
All customers' tables are handmade. As we are lucky enough to be able to live in Devon where we have our own workshop, everything can be made to your individual requests. Nothing is produced from a factory. We make up all our components on site, and are able to assemble everything here first, so that we know it all goes smoothly when you receive delivery of your Devonoke furniture. As we deal with our customers on a personal basis, we also like to ensure our products recieve the same high level of attention as our clients.
